Scheme of Studies For M.Phil. Economics

  1. Duration:

    M.Phil. Economics is a two years’ degree program comprising of four regular semesters, extendable up to six semesters.

  2. Academic Requirements for Degree:

    Successful Completion of 50 Credit Hours
    Course work: Eight courses worth 24 credit hours
    Research work: Thesis worth 26 credit hours

  3. Course Work:

     M.Phil. Economics is a two years degree program comprising of four regular semesters. First two semesters are allocated for course work. Students are required to take four compulsory and four optional courses. The details are given below:If a student is unable to complete 24 credit hours in first two semesters then remaining credits can be registered in 3rd  semester, provided that student is not ceased to be the student of university.

  4. Research Thesis:

    Research thesis is offered in third semester. The normal period to complete research thesis is two semesters. It is extendable up to four semesters on the recommendations of supervisor and subject to the approval of Advance Studies and Research Board.

    1. 4.1 Allocation of Supervisor : Thesis is carried out under the supervision of a regular faculty member who holds a Ph.D. degree. After the completion of course work, students are asked to talk with teachers for the supervision of thesis. Normally supervisor is allocated according to preferences of student, depending that the desired supervisor is willing and available.
    2. 4.2 Approval of Research Topic : After the allocation of supervisor the students are expected to submit the research topic at the earliest. The topic is finally approved by Advance Studies and Research Board.
    3. 4.3 Submission of Thesis : A student is expected to submit thesis at the end of forth semester, as per date announced by the registrar office. If a student is unable to submit thesis within due date then at most two additional semesters may be granted, subject to the recommendation of supervisor and approval of Advance Studies and Research Board
    4. 4.4 Evaluation of Thesis : A thesis is evaluated by an external examiner. School of Economics suggests three examiners (from the list of approved examiners) and Vice Chancellor finalize any one of them. In consultation with external examiner, the date of viva is finalized. The viva is open for all students and faculty members.
