Duration:
The minimum period for completion of PhD requirements shall be three years from the date of registration, and the maximum period shall be seven years.

- Note: Each course worth 3 credit hours. Courses already studied in M.Phil. cannot be repeated.Courses are to be selected from the offered list, after consultation with supervisor.
- 2.2 Comprehensive Examination
- After the completion of course work a student is required to pass a comprehensive examination, consisting of a written and an oral part,
- A student is required to pass a comprehensive examination within three years of admission to the PhD programme.
- If a student does not pass the comprehensive examination in the first attempt, he/she may be given one more chance on the recommendation of his/her Supervisor. The registration of a PhD student shall be deemed as cancelled if he/she does not pass the comprehensive examination even in the second attempt.
- School of Economics shall normally hold at least one comprehensive examination in a semester.
- 2.3 Research Thesis
- Allocation of Supervisor
- Supervisor is allocated at the time of admission.
- Research Proposal
- After passing comprehensive examination, student will start research work. At first stage he/she will prepare research proposal which will be presented to faculty and students.
- Research Seminar
- At least one Seminar on thesis before final submission (for feedback and suggestions, if any)
- Research Publication
- Acceptance of at least one research article (extracted from thesis) in HEC recognized journal (not in z – category)
- Submission of Thesis and Foreign Evaluation
- A thesis is evaluated by foreign examiners. School of Economics suggests six examiners (from the list of approved examiners) and Vice Chancellor finalize any three of them. At least two out of three positive reports should be positive.
- Supervisor’s Report
- Incorporate changes suggested (if any) by foreign evaluators and submission of Supervisor report to Advance Studies & Research Board.
- Final Viva
- Final Viva by Local Experts (publication of article is mandatory before conduct of final viva)
